WHAT IS THIS ABOUT?
The European Lawyers’ Union (U.A.E.) is a non-profit Association that brings together the practicing lawyers in all the Member States of the European Union, with the primary aim of promoting the professional practice of law in Europe, as well as furthering the practice of European Union Law and of the European Convention on Human Rights.
The U.A.E. and its regional Delegations and Commissions organize numerous conferences and other events across Europe and promote the publication of the most relevant contributions.
The U.A.E. Scholarship for Young Lawyers aims to promote the participation of young lawyers in the activities of the U.A.E., by awarding an invitation to the Annual Congress and the General Assembly.
In 2024, the Annual Congress will take place on June 7 in Palermo (Italy), under the theme “Artificial intelligence, smart contracts, blockchain and cybersecurity awareness”, and the General Assembly in Viena (Austria), in November 2024.
Young lawyers are cordially invited to apply to the Scholarship by submitting an application and completing an Essay related to the theme of the Annual Congress by 1 April 2024.

AWARDS
The Scholarship awards the following:
Invitation to the U.A.E. Annual Congress and the General Assembly of 2024, including an exemption from registration fees. The Congress is scheduled to take place on June 7, 2024 in Palermo (Italy), and the General Assembly in Viena (Austria) in November 2024.
Travel and accommodation expenses (to be organized and paid for by the U.A.E. and subject to a ceiling of 1,000 Euros per year).
A two-year free membership of the U.A.E. (for 2024 and 2025).
For 2024, one Scholarship will be given.
In view of the quality of the Essays, the Scholarship Committee, further to the agreement of the Executive Committee of the U.A.E., may decide to grant additional Scholarships (which in any event will not exceed a total of three).
WHO CAN PARTICIPATE?
The Scholarship is open to young lawyers up to and including the age of 35 as of 1 November 2024, registered with a Bar Association within the European Union or of the Council of Europe, including trainee lawyers (insofar as already registered with the respective Bar Association, under the applicable rules).
U.A.E. membership is not required in order to submit an application.
ESSAY
The Essay must be related to the theme of the 2024 Annual Congress: “Artificial intelligence, smart contracts, blockchain and cybersecurity awareness” (please see the list of examples of possible essay topics in paragraph 5 of the Terms and Conditions). The Essay must comply with the following format:
Up to 6,000 words, not including footnotes or the bibliography
Double spaced
Word file
The first page of the Essay must contain only the following information: Applicant’s full name and email address

You can apply to the U.A.E. Scholarship 2024 by completing the Application form and submit an Essay, according to the Terms and Conditions.
